What's Happening This Month?
This month is packed with opportunities to connect and grow, guys! We're kicking things off with our Annual Summer Picnic next Saturday at 11 AM in Blessing Park. It's always a blast – think great food, fun games for the kids (and the kids at heart!), and a chance to just relax and fellowship with one another outside of our regular service times. Make sure to sign up at the Welcome Center so we can get a headcount for food. Following that, our Wednesday Night Bible Study is diving into a new series called "Faith in Action," exploring practical ways to live out our beliefs in our daily lives. It's a fantastic chance to deepen your understanding and ask those burning questions in a supportive environment. We're also excited to announce the launch of our new Community Outreach Program, focused on supporting local families in need. We'll be collecting non-perishable food items and gently used clothing throughout the month. More details on how you can get involved will be shared during the service and on our website. Don't forget about our Youth Group meeting this Sunday after the service – they've got some fun activities planned! We really want to emphasize that these events are for everyone. It's not just about attending; it's about participating and building those bonds that make our church so special. We encourage you to step out, try something new, and connect with others. Your presence truly makes a difference, and we can't wait to see you there!
Ministry Spotlights: Getting Involved
At First UMC Fort Smith, we believe that ministry isn't just something that happens at church; it's something we do together as the hands and feet of Christ. We have a variety of ministries that are always looking for passionate individuals to lend a hand, and this month, we're shining a spotlight on a couple of them. First up is our Worship Team. If you have a gift for music, whether it's singing, playing an instrument, or even helping with the technical aspects like sound and lighting, we'd love to have you join us. Practices are held on Thursday evenings, and it's a truly rewarding experience to lead our congregation in worship each week. It's also a great way to build community with others who share a love for music and faith. Next, we have our Children's Ministry. This is such a vital part of our church, nurturing the faith of our youngest members. We need volunteers for Sunday School, VBS (Vacation Bible School – coming up soon!), and various children's events. It's a joyful and impactful way to make a difference in the lives of children, helping them to know the love of God from an early age. No experience is necessary – just a willing heart and a love for kids! Finally, let's not forget our Hospitality Team. These are the folks who make everyone feel welcome, from greeting at the door to helping with refreshments. If you have a knack for making people feel at home, this is the ministry for you. It's often the first impression visitors have of our church, and our Hospitality Team does an incredible job making everyone feel seen and valued. We truly believe there's a place for everyone to serve. Check out the ministry fair board in the narthex or visit our website for more details on how to sign up. Your unique talents and gifts are needed and appreciated!
A Message of Hope
In the midst of our busy lives, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day hustle and forget to pause and reflect on the deeper things. This month, I wanted to share a message of hope that I believe resonates with all of us. Life can throw some curveballs, can't it? We face challenges, uncertainties, and sometimes, just plain tough times. But through it all, our faith in God offers a constant beacon of hope. The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." This verse is such a powerful reminder that no matter what we're going through, God has a plan, and that plan is rooted in love and purpose. It means that even in the darkest moments, there is light. Even when we feel lost, there is a path forward. This hope isn't passive; it's an active, living hope that empowers us, strengthens us, and guides us. It encourages us to keep going, to love one another, and to trust in God's unfailing goodness. As we move through this month, I encourage you to hold onto that hope. Share it with others. Let it shape your perspective and fuel your actions. Remember that you are not alone, and that God's love is always with you. May you find peace, comfort, and renewed strength in His promises. Let this hope be the foundation upon which we build our lives and our community here at First UMC Fort Smith.
Upcoming Events Calendar
Mark your calendars, folks! We've got a vibrant schedule lined up for you this month, and we don't want you to miss a single thing. Here's a quick rundown of what's coming:
This is just a snapshot, and we'll share more details about each event in the coming weeks. You can always find the most up-to-date information on our church website or by calling the church office. We're all about community and connection, so come on out and be a part of it!
A Note from Our Pastor
Dear Church Family,
It fills my heart with joy to connect with you through this inaugural newsletter. As your pastor, I am continually inspired by the spirit of generosity, compassion, and faith that I witness within our congregation. We are a church called to serve, to love, and to grow together in Christ, and I see that calling lived out daily in so many ways.
This month, as we launch this new communication channel, I want to encourage us all to lean into the opportunities we have to strengthen our community. Whether it's through participating in our summer picnic, engaging in meaningful study during our Wednesday night gatherings, or contributing to our vital outreach efforts, each act of involvement matters. These aren't just activities; they are expressions of our shared faith and our commitment to one another and to the wider world.
I am particularly excited about the new Community Outreach Program. In a world that often feels divided, it is our sacred duty to extend a hand of kindness and support to those in need. Let us embrace this opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community, showing God's love through tangible acts of service.
As we look ahead, remember the promise of God's presence in our lives. Even when faced with challenges, we can find strength and peace in knowing that we are never alone. May you feel God's presence in your daily life, in your interactions with others, and in your quiet moments of reflection.
I look forward to seeing you all at our various events and worship services. Let us continue to build a church that is vibrant, welcoming, and deeply rooted in the love of Christ.
Blessings,
Pastor [Pastor's Name]
